Wrong Turn (2003)

The first installment in the “Wrong Turn” franchise begins with Chris Flynn, a medical student traveling to a job interview. He takes a shortcut through the back roads of West Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains. Along the way, he becomes caught in a heavy traffic jam due to an accident on the main highway. Frustrated, he decides to take another, less-traveled route suggested by a local resident.

As Chris drives deeper into the woods, he accidentally crashes into a car that had been left in the middle of the road. This car belongs to a group of friends who are stranded after their own vehicle broke down. The friends include Jessie, Carly, Scott, Francine, and Evan.

The group of friends decides to trek through the woods in search of help, leaving Chris to repair his vehicle. As they venture deeper into the forest, they realize they are not alone. They come across an old, run-down cabin and later discover that they are being hunted by a group of deformed and cannibalistic mountain men.

The group must rely on their wits and survival instincts to escape the clutches of these murderous, inbred attackers. The film is filled with suspenseful chase sequences, brutal violence, and graphic horror elements as the friends try to evade the relentless killers.

As the group navigates the rugged terrain, they quickly discover that they are not alone. Again, they encounter the deformed, cannibalistic mountain men who begin hunting them down one by one. The group must fight for their lives as they try to escape their relentless pursuers.

Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead (2009)

“Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings” serves as a prequel to the previous “Wrong Turn” movies as it tells us the origin and disturbing upbringing of the three mountain men, Three Finger, One Eye, and Saw Tooth, who have been hunting down people from the very first movie.

The film begins with a group of friends who decide to spend a winter weekend at a secluded, abandoned sanatorium deep in the West Virginia wilderness. The friends include a mix of college students and their significant others, seeking a fun and adventurous getaway.

As the group arrives at the deserted sanatorium, they quickly discover that they are not alone. They find evidence of the mountain men’s presence and realize that they are trapped in the cold, snow-covered location. The friends must fight for their lives as they become the targets of the deformed, cannibalistic mountain men, including Three Finger and Saw Tooth.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the sanatorium itself holds dark secrets, and the mountain men are not the only threats the group faces.

Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines (2012)

“Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines” is the fifth installment in the “Wrong Turn” film series.

The film is set in the fictional town of Fairlake, West Virginia, during Halloween. A group of college friends, including Billy, his girlfriend Cruz, Lita, her boyfriend Gus, Julian, and his girlfriend Lita, arrive in Fairlake to celebrate the holiday with a wild Halloween party.

However, their plans take a dark turn when they inadvertently run afoul of the law during their celebration. Sheriff Angela Carter arrests the group and places them in the local jail to await processing.

Meanwhile, a group of dangerous prisoners is being transferred to a nearby institution, and they include the notorious mountain man, Three Finger. During the prisoner transport, an accident occurs, allowing the prisoners to escape. Now, the town is besieged by both the prisoners and the cannibalistic mountain men.

The college friends, along with Sheriff Carter, must fight for their lives as they become caught in the crossfire between the two groups of violent and ruthless adversaries.

Upon their arrival, they discover the decrepit hotel, known as the “Hilliker’s Resort,” in a state of disrepair. Despite the condition of the place, they decide to stay and try to restore it. As they explore the hotel, they also come across the history of the Hilliker family, who used to run the resort.

However, their attempts to rejuvenate the hotel are short-lived when they realize that they are not alone. The deformed mountain men, including Three Finger and Saw Tooth, are still lurking in the woods and are intent on protecting their territory. The group of friends soon becomes the targets of the brutal and sadistic attackers.

As the story unfolds, Danny learns more about his connection to the mountain men and the Hilliker family’s dark secrets. He must confront the disturbing and violent history of his ancestors while trying to save himself and his friends from the relentless attackers.

Wrong Turn (2021)

Instead of continuing the story from where the previous “Wrong Turn” movies left it, “Wrong Turn” 2021 serves as a reboot of the original “Wrong Turn” film series, introducing a new storyline while retaining the concept of a group of people encountering danger in the wilderness.

For starters, the film follows a group of friends who embark on a hiking trip along the Appalachian Trail. As they hike through the remote, wooded terrain, they encounter challenges and natural obstacles. However, their adventure takes a terrifying turn when they venture off the beaten path and stumble upon a hidden, insular community living in the Appalachian wilderness. This community, known as “The Foundation,” follows a strict set of rules and beliefs, isolating themselves from the outside world.

The hikers’ presence in the territory of The Foundation is met with hostility, leading to a deadly confrontation between the two groups. The outsiders are subjected to brutal and sadistic treatment by The Foundation, who are determined to protect their way of life and secrets.

The film explores themes of survival, the clash of cultures, and the extremes people will go to in order to protect their beliefs and way of life.

“Wrong Turn” serves as a modern reboot of the original film series, offering a fresh take on the concept of a group of people encountering danger in the wilderness. While retaining some of the series’ signature horror elements, it introduces new characters, situations, and a more complex narrative. The film was released over a decade after the previous entry in the series and aimed to provide a contemporary spin on the premise.

And there you have it, folks, how many “Wrong Turn” are there, and the “Wrong Turn” movies in order.
